1.8t VS 2.0 V-Tec!

Im with my friend brandon and im using the jetta last night. We ended up running into a brand new Civic SI sedan. At first we didnt know if he was baiting us or not cause we saw some flshing lights and thought it mightve been due to the rough roads. we drive for a couple more blocks and the guy gets behind us and clearly flashes his lights. I down shift to 2nd going at 50mph and let him get next to me. It looked like a kid with his friend in the car like we were. It's 3:30AM and there are no cars on the road so we go. Instantly in 2nd I put 3 cars on him, Shift to 3rd and he's pretty far behind. I slow down cause my turn is coming up to my girls house so I can get the 8 and drop off the jetta. The guy comes behind me again and flashes his lights again, I look at brandon and shrug as I move out of the lane and pass the turn so we could go for round 2.

We continue on because we reach some cars, but once they cleared he came next to me again and I down shifted to 2nd again, this time I let him take off first, he got half a car and I slammed on the gas closing the gapand putting 2 cars when I shifted to 3rd. I slowed down getting ready to turn around when we came to a red light and he was next to me.

The light turned green and we took off. OMG NO BOOST! The car went into limp mode. I Turned the car on and off quickly and slammed onto 2nd, he had more than a bus length on me, I figured I wasnt gonna catch him. by third I was starting to pull but by the time I closed the gap to 2 cars we reached another light.

So it was a fun couple of runs and it was obvious i had alot more power than himto constantly put that much distance on him and pull him like that.

cause in the 2nd run i overboosted and didnt notice, so the max boost i had when we got to the light was 5psi, the jetta hasnt been completely tuned as far as the fueling during the higher rpms so to protect itself the car goes into limp mode which is restricting the boost to 5-7psi.

I have the program to tune the car just dont have the VAG cable yet.

Re: 1.8t VS 2.0 V-Tec!

Do you think any of the problems with the Jetta might have something to do with the "boost controler" you built for it?

Um i didnt build the boost controller, Turbo-XS did. And Im using the boost controller to restrict boost instead of using it to increase boost. The reason why it goes into limp mode is because the car isnt tuned for the parts that are on the car, I need to run the car through with VAG-COM to get the diagnostics and then tune it with lemminwinks depending on what the problem is.

Re: 1.8t VS 2.0 V-Tec!

shouldn't the boost controller be able to override the amount of boost your car is trying to limit you to running? i'm not really a forced induction guy but that was my understandning on how they worked.

Re: 1.8t VS 2.0 V-Tec!

the ecu needs to be tuned to spec because the high boost without the proper fuel accomodation could be detrimental.......but very nice kill(s)

Well her eis the problem because my AF ratio is fine IF I punch the gas at over 3k rpms, if for whatever reason i punch the gas before 3k rpms i will over boost faster than my boost controller can limit it and i will boost faster than it can taper off.

And to answer cassies, yes i am still running the diode, but i have the MBC to limit boost to no greater than 19psi, but like I said if I punch the gas at too low RPMs it will over boost to 23psi and then hit limp mode. The 3k rpm rule does not apply to 1st gear though

The ECU Upgrade is 500 bucks and I dont have 500 to spend like that at the moment cause I'm buying tires for the RX-8 on top of that the car is currently faster than those with the ECU upgrade.

Also by the time you get down here the jetta might be gone.

I'm autocrossing the RX-8 1-2 times a month and drifting the occasional corners on the way home at 2AM. All that eats tires
