how is the gas milage on the new silverados?
I have an 02 silverado 2500HD and the gas milage just sucks already. I get 300 miles to a full tank and that is 99% highway. I was considering trading it in for an 07 model but dont want to waste my time if its not worth it. I dont need the 2500HD series anymore so I will just get a 1500 ext cab or maybe crew cab with the 6 foot bed. So for those of you that are driving these newer models, how is the gas milage and do these come with that displacment on demand option?

Well I don't have 1st hand experience on the 07s. But I can tell you that at 300 miles to the tank with a 26 gallon tank - you're looking at 12 and under on highway driving - and I think you can do better - at least I did with a friends 2500 - took it from 13 highway to 17+ highway driving. Myself - I have a 6 liter engine in a rwd 1500 series (the VHO is an SS with rwd). So it isn't the same engine as yours (mine's an LQ9 and I think yours is an LQ4 (different compression and hp/torque). So mine getting 22 and 23 hwy isn't a fair example to your 4 x 4 situation. I linked below to a thread I started a couple uears ago - that the moderator recently closed - its got 425 replies in it - from many giving ideas on improving gas mileage etc.. In that grouping I detailed what I did to my friends 2500 to improve his mileage (no modifications or big expenses) - simple stuff that makes a big difference when combined together. The 07s I've heard are a bit improved in mileage from many prior models. Others will have alot more info than me on that issue - but remember - mileage ratings by EPA have been re-written too - so the new standards are tougher than prior. Even so - I've never had a vehicle I couldn't get better than EPa numbers. Here's the thread I talked about: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=335161 And here is the new EPA numbers being used and retroactive for all prior models: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm

Re: how is the gas milage on the new silverados?
If you bought a 2500HD with I'm guessing a 6.0L, I hope you were never expecting to get good mileage.
The '07s do get better mileage especially than your 25000HD. The coolest thing is that they're making more power, and getting the same if not better mileage than previous models. If you want to get the displacement on demand (aka Active Fuel Management), it's only available for the 5.3 and you will have to get a 2lt or LTZ package, which are the second most and the most expensive packages. |
