94 GM odometer stopped working

Hi all, the odometer stopped working on my GM 94 4.6L. The tripmeter doesn't work either but the speedometer works fine. All the dash lights work fine also. Do I have to replace the instrument cluster or is there a sensor that I should check 1st? When I pulled the cluster out it only has 2 electrical plugs that go to the back of it, no cable at all. If I have to replace it what other years are compatible with the 1994 model?
Thanks in advance.

Re: 98 GM odometer stopped working

Have the EXACT problem on an '93 GM but haven't had time to fix it. Was it easy to pull the cluster? In any event, you probably need to replace the gear sets. Look here for info. MB

Re: 98 GM odometer stopped working

Yes it is easy to pull out. Just remove all the plastic trim around it. Make sure you disconect the small wire that indicates the correct gear. It is a small white plastic tubing coming out of the cluster at the bottom left just follow it and it will end at a metal arm that moves when you move the shift stick. It is looped around that so just grab the wire and remove it. Unscrew the plastic base close to that so you can completely free the white tubing. Remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster and remove it by lifting from the bottom and pulling towards you. When you see the 2 electrical plugs remove them and it should come right out. Reverse for installation.

That site looks good im just wondering how easy could be to open the cluster ? Im not sure if the gauges will decalibrate or something like that.

Re: 98 GM odometer stopped working

Thanks for the info. I have included a link to "lincolnsonline". They have REALLY detailed instructions for all kinds of repairs. I think they have one for the cluster but I am not sure so you need to check it. Let me know how you make out! If they don't have it I'll look around and see what I come up with but I think they might!!
