Idle RPM

How can the engine idle be increased on a chevy tahoe 2001? Presently, it is approximately 500 RPM and the AC compressor will not operate at this RPM. Manually speed the RPM to approximately 800-1000 and the AC will operate.

Proper operation of the Air Conditioning system in the South is important with the high humidity and temperature we have.

Any assistance to reset the throtle control sensor would be appreciated.

Re: Idle RPM

Idle is set by the PCM and is not adjustable. If there was a problem, the SES light would be on. This is kind of long shot but I have seen this on a dodge cummins before: At idle a lack of air flow through the condensor would cause AC pressures to stay high enough that the compressor would never kick on and the complaint was that at a stoplight the air out the vents would get hot. The fix: I washed out the radiator and condensor fins because they were plugged full of leaves, bugs, dirt, etc...Don't know if this helps or not.

Thanks for the advice; What you describe is exactly what is happening; also had a dodge cummings and it would do the same thing. No lights are on, but the AC will kick out-speed up the RPM and the AC will kick in. I will try flushing the condenser and radiator fins. This Tahoe was inherited from my wife and she never complained. She bought a new one and gave me this one. I do like the Air here in the south.
