You might check the TV cabel at the valve body.
Make sure it is not broke and has spring tensionon it.

You had problems with the digital dash lights too right? Did you figure that out? Do you have a 4L60e or a 4L60? Late '92's got the electronic transmission. Maybe an electrical problem, but just specualting at this point.

i checked the TV cable at the throttle end, its intact with spring tension and seems to be in adjustment, about a 1/8 inch defection until i feel spring tension.

If it has the 4L60e, it'll have a 20 wire connection on the passenger side of the transmission.

its the 4L60. the TV cable is the give away, no solenoids. hoping its just a bad cable adjustment or bad throttle valve assembly but my experiences in the past tells me that the loss of the 3/4 clutches usualy means a complete rebuild. The rebuilder of my choice (not the shop that rebuilt it last) does have some after market electronic shift pack upgrades.

the planetary gears broke, metal everywhere. time for a complete rebuild. $1,500 bucks plus what ever the new gears cost. o well still less than four months payments on a new truck.

Thanks for posting back how it went and what you found.
High repair but like you said only 4 payments on a new one.
Sometimes them gears can get expensive to.
You might price out a GM dealer rebuilt.
They are upping the warranty on them over the 50k to around 75K or more.
In the good old days I could get them for 1100 US dollars.
Good Luck MT

Thanks for the reply MT. I called the dealer after reading your post to check it out and a GM rebuilt is $1,350 with a 3yr/100k warranty and that's for the tranny on a pallet only. The shop I'm using broke it out for me and the actual rebuild on mine is $940 plus $62 for the gears and includes a new torque converter and shift pack. The rest is R&R, fluid, flushing, EPA disposal fees, misc. shop fees, a fee for walking in the door, a fee for walking out the door, etc., etc., but after all is said and done I do get the job done with a 30k parts and labor warranty for about $400 less than going with the GM rebuilt with a parts only warranty. The GM option might make sence if I could do the R&R myself.
