Can someone give me help getting the Alternator installed on my 96 Grand Am. I'm not sure why but I can't seem to get it back together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ok first of all if it is a 4 cylinder engine like my 99 all you have to do is get a 5/8 wrench so you can relieve pressure on the belt tensioner, route your belt thru the crankshaft pulley and the A C pulley, and under the belt tensioner, while relieving tension , then mount the belt on the alternator pulley and release the belt tensioner slowly. hope this helps good luck...

Re: Help installing alternator on 96 Grand Am
You still need help? I put one in a 94 in 12 degree weather without loosening the belt tensioner (didnt bring the right wrench and it was too cold lol) in Autozone's parking lot lol. What engine does it have?
