Window Reg. How to rig it?

97.5 GS...Both rear window regulators broke. I already replaced both fronts. I really dont want to replace 2 more....Is there a way I can rig them to keep the window up..Right now it has tape on the windows. It looks like crap.

Gee, I thought I was the only one that did that? I used a small c clamp that will go with the car when I get rid of it.

Re: Window Reg. How to rig it?

When mine fail I use a piece of springy wood about the dimension of a yardstick, notched at the top and rounded at the bottom. It's cut slightly long and wedged between the bottom of the glass & the crease at the bottom of the door panel. Also add a strip of Scotch #33 tape along the top edge for safety.
This is temporary while waiting for the replacement regulator. As you probably know, the problem is almost always the plastic cable retainer on the slide.
I recently saw sites on Ebay selling the regulators, less motor, for about $20. That's way better than the ~$90 for the whole thing and WAY better than the $450 the Buick dealer charges.
It's a real shame that Buick did such a lousy job on this feature. Seems to be chronic with LaSabres as well.
Good luck

Re: Window Reg. How to rig it?

I replaced all my window regulators 2 times except for one window that is a virgin. This car has been relatively trouble free except for the window regulators, window molding, and now a ignition switch. But like you said they sure did a lousy job on design. After my experience with the Buick I went to CRANK window regulators in my Dodge truck.

The sooner we get on it like VW owners the sooner people get refunded. Read here about the Class Action suit:
