Need Help to change the Starter

I have a 98 gs-t and the starter has gone bad. I took the car to a mechanic and he said that it was just the wire to the starter and he replaced it. the car worked fine for about a half a day and now it won't start again. I still have a new starter in the box and just need some helpful instructions on how to go about changing it out. Any help would be great. thanks

Re: Need Help to change the Starter

before you replace the starter why don't you make the mechanic fix his work that he didn't do properly?

Re: Need Help to change the Starter

Its easiest from the underside of the car... Reach up there and unhook your wires from the starter. Take the two bolts out and slide it straight out. Slide the new one straight in. If it doesn't go in right, pull it out and turn the gear slightly and try it again. Then put your two bolts back in and reconnect your wires...

Are you sure its the starter and just not a starter relay gone bad? Or even a loose wire on the starter. Bad connections can cause the most severe problems sometimes...

Re: Need Help to change the Starter

If you remove the battery, taking out the starter is a snap. It's tricky the first time you do it (And can take a bit of time) But once you do it once it's super easy. I've always done it from the top.

Re: Need Help to change the Starter

The last post is pretty much on the dot. The cars starter is on the back side of the motor. Disconnect the Battery, take out the battery, with tray, and you can disconnect your intake hose from the throttle body, and move it out of the way to give you a little more room....you can see the starter, with two bolts in it. Remove the two bolts and jimmy it out, after you do it a few times, it comes pretty easy. I find it easier taking the starter out from the top...Tj
