Overheating

I have a 2001 dokota with a 4.7 v8. My engine will come to temp and stay for a while then it will slowly creep up. If I turn on the heat in the cab the temp goes back down. I have replaced the stat, and the fan clutch still know change. Can any budy tell me whats wrong

Did you get all the air out of the cooling system when you replaced the thermostat? If you don't get all the air out, the water pump has trouble keeping the fluid moving.

Check the bottom and top radiator hose when running. Are both hoses hot a partially plugged radiator will cause your type of problems. Look in the cap and check for good circulation.

I had the same problem with a 99 3.9L the radiator was the problem. I found this out after changeing the water pump, 3 thermastats, belts, hoses, checked timing, removing the exhaust for back pressure. This could have been avoided by checking the tempeture with a ir temp gun at different places on radiator. The lower temps means the radiator is plugged. This caused by the pink or extended anti freeze. Antifreeze needs to be changed yearly. Good luck:Ryobiguy

i had a similar problome on my 2000 dodge dakota 1st time it was a rad leak 2nd time it was just low rad fluid

also if it is a air bubble in the system open rad cap and leave it running and it should get out of system
