A/C problem - 2000 ZX2

At the end of last summer, the a/c in my 2000 ZX2 died. I didn't worry about it then because it was coming into fall and I would not need it. About 6 weeks ago, it started getting really hot where we live, so I decided it was time. I usually take my car to the dealership where I bought it. For this, I had my wife take it to the mechanic she has been using for many, many years. He is very reasonable and she trusts him implicitly.

He charged it and it ran nice and cold. He checked it for leaks the next week and found none. Two weeks ago, I was on the way home and noticed that it was not cooling down again. She took it up today and he put a small charge in it and, again, found no leaks.

The two options he gave were to charge it again and put in "Red Angel" sealant, which he said is usually very effective at stopping a small to moderate leaks.

He also said that there could be a leak behind the dashboard. That option (taking off the dash to check and fix a leak, if necessary) is much costlier.

My questions are...
1. Has anyone heard of or used this Red Angel Sealant (or had experience with any other a/c sealants)?
2. What components of the a/c system are behind the dash that could leak?

Obviously, I'm choosing the cheaper option first.

THanks in advance.

DAve G.

Re: A/C problem - 2000 ZX2

Im guessing the problem is the evaporator inside the dash. Ours did the same thing (2000zx2). If that could be the problem dont keep charging it unless you want to inhale trace amounts of freon.

I wouldnt use any kind of sealant they tend to eventually cause more harm than good
