Aggrivating electrical problem- HELP!!!
I have a 2000 Contour that is giving me, what I assume, is an electrical problem. It does not do this all the time. I get in, the door dings as it should, insert the key, turn the switch and the dash lights come on, but not at their full brightness and when you turn the key further to actually start the car, I get nothing. The dash lights will go more dim at that point. If I place my foot on the brake, the dash lights go completely out. Take my foot off, they brighten back up, but the car still won't turn over. 9 times out of 10, I have to sit with the key turned all the way over and it's like the car is charging itself up to actually start. Suddenly the lights will get their full brightest, the door will ding louder and faster, the windshield wipers will come on and cycle twice and the car will start. I sometimes place my foot on the brake, turn the key over, release the car from park and attempt to roll the car back and forth to get the charging sensation I mentioned, if I hold the key all the way over and release the brake quickly sometimes I get the charging sensation and the car will start. Other times, I have had the same situation, simply put on my seat belt and the lights brightened all the way up and the car started. I have had the battery checked, had Autozone put the car on the computer to make sure no sensors/under the hood fuses were out, I have checked the fuses inside the car. Not sure if this is a short or if something has or is going out. PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Aggrivating electrical problem- HELP!!!
First things first. Clean battery cables and posts. Make sure they are on tight. Neutralize any acid on the + cable with some baking soda and toothbrush with water. Check the water level in the battery.

Re: Aggrivating electrical problem- HELP!!!
Battery posts/cables, etc have been cleaned, battery has been checked. All good in that department. As strange as it may sound, I beleive I have located part of the problem or it's a strange coincidence, but I happened to fiddle with the clutch switch the next to last time the situation occured, basically, twisted it back into place and the car came right to life. But the other day it did it again. Haven't replaced the clutch switch yet though.
