Burning too much petrol?!!

Hi,

I recently bought a Nissan Almera GX 1996. I have noticed that the KM per litre is surprising low (About 3KM/Litre!!!) There is a strong smell of petrol (outside) after running. Th engine also 'Sputters' sometimes!

Pleases help ana amateur!

Bro, it sounds like you aren't getting full combustion. If you know how long ago they replaced the plugs and wires, I would do that first. If the problem doesn't go away, you might have an ignition problem and could be due to Coils, ECM, or other things that I don't know about. At least you know that your injectors are working :P.

That has the GA16DE engine, correct? From what I've seen, they are very well built.

If your ignition is good (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc), I'd look for a bad injector (stuck open), or a blown pressure regulator. Is the check engine light on?

Get the MAF sensor and exhaust oxygen sensors checked.

A mate had his nissan V6 running at 7:1 (lambda = 2) with a screwed up O2 sensor. Most engines would have fouled up long before then.
