'99 Trouble Code P0101

Hi, I have a '99 with a "W" in the VIN. The van has been running roughly and has been using more gas than normal. No power up hill, hesitation when you try to accelerate.

I put a new air filter on, but not much improvement. It has 100K miles and I replaced the plugs, wires, cap at 70K. Just yesterday the service engine light went on and the Advance Auto here scanned - Code P0101. I am reluctant to go ahead with a new MAF sensor just yet because I'm not 100% sure this is the root cause. A rebuilt here is around $100.

Also, I have noticed the gas pedal will seem to "stick" when you first press it. I shot some lube around the moving parts of the pedal with no improvement. Could there be something with the throttle? Anyone experience this before?

Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: '99 Trouble Code P0101

Update: After Advanced had cleared the P0101 code it did not re-appear. The van still was running badly, so I decided to let the local chevy dealer do diagnostics on it. They did not find any sensors operating out of range , but did find a fuel volume problem. They put a new fuel filter on and it helped. The one I had on there had about 25K miles on it.

I'm not sure why I was using more fuel or why the engine light came on. I calculated 16+ MPG over a year ago and am going to recalculate now. It's running better now, so I guess I'll see how it does.

I decided to try to clean the throttle with carb cleaner and a rag to try to remove the pedal "stick". I did not pull the body out - just reached in and cleaned it. This only helped slightly.

Re: '99 Trouble Code P0101

for your sticky pedal, you should clean your moving parts on the throttle body with a good carb cleaner then apply your lube. Be careful to use a good quality lube, many will evaporate and you're back to square one.

For your fuel issue, have you checked your fuel pressure. You mention that changing the fuel filter helped, it sounds like you have a fuel pressure problem. Make sure the fuel pressure is adequate and that you have plenty of fuel pressure to the injector tracks also. That will lead you in the right direction.
