Modelers from South Africa?

Hi guys,

I'll be in Midrand (South Africa) from August '07 until March '08
for an internship during my practical term.

I was wondering if there is anyone from SA who builds model cars/trucks?

I know chances are slim, but hey - asking is free

Hi Sebastian

There is absolutely a local modelling group. It's called Gold Reef Scale Modelers, and we meet last Saturday of every month at the Johannesburg War Museum in the delville Room from 13h00.

There are a number of car builders in the club, so feel free to join us.

There is also the SA NNL competition coming up on August 25th (in Kimberley) as well as the IPMS Nationals on September 21-24 in Vereeniging.

Where are you usually based?

I am from Karlsruhe / Germany. I don't know yet where exactly I'll live in Midrand, the company arranges my accomodation.

I'll sure try to meet up with the modelers in Jo'burg.

Hey im from South Africa, however im in Cape Town and not Joburg. As for modeling......joburg is definately the place to be, not much modelers in Cape town. Hoe you have a good one!

I'm from Paarl, working in Stellenbosch (close to Cape Town, for the non-South-Africans).
The Winelands is looking like it's getting dressed for rain again today. But that was after some absolutely gorgeous lazy sunny winter days. Sorry freakray, I just had to remind you!

I make Alfa Romeo cars and trucks in 1/43 scale, as well as other 1/43 scale cars, like some South African racers for advanced collectors.

i am from italy and i am not going to live in SA... but i want to ask you if you know an old SA modelers nicknamend "fininho"... some years ago i saw his collection sold on internet as he died... There were hundered photos, but i never saw them again... Do you know something?
