'93 Escort EGR Valve
I have a 93 escort LX 1.9L engine. I can not for the life of me find the EGR Valve. I have looked at numerous diagrams showing where it should be but its not there. I did read that some escorts don't have them is this true? My car failed emissions, barely, I have since replace spark plug wires, I am going to replace the Idle Air Control Valve tonight. I think it would be wise to replace the EGR Valve as well. I have a pretty rough idle when its in gear but nutrual idle seems to be better after I changed the spark plug wires. Thank you all for your help!

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
try this. pretty much like a free haynes manual from auto zone. sometimes helpful sometimes no. i have a GT model so i am no help since mine doesn't have one. Best thing i can tell you from looking at the picture is that the lower end of it connects to the exhaust pipe and is near the cv axle. guess from there you can follow it up.

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
Thanks for the help, am I confusing the EGR Valve, with the Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor, EGR Vacuum Regulator. Sorry I am not mechanicly inclined but I know I can do these repairs. I have looked at these diagrams before and they aren't helping me. Thanks for your help.

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
Easy to find... start at the exhaust manifold just below the spark plugs. You will see a metal tube that leads out toward the driver side and wraps around toward the back side of the intake manifold. Mine is somewhat brownish in color, connected to the intake manifold on the far end of that metal tube.
Actually... it may be mounted to the cylinder head... but it is in that general area. Follow the tube and you will find it. |

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
Thanks, I should be able to find it with those directions. As far as the actual swap out, is there anything I should know? Ex. Special tools? Bolts? anything else have to be removed to get to it? Thanks again.

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
Nope... just detach what is connected to it and pull it off. I think it is just held on by two small bolts.

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
OK I must be retarded... Don't reply to that. I followed your instructions exactly. No EGR Valve. I talked to a friend that used to be a mechanic, and he told me to jack up the car and look under the intake manifold that it might be mounted right to the engine. I didn't have time last night to get under the car. Can any tell me if this sounds acurate before I go to all the trouble.

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
My Escort is a 92 wagon, with the 1.9L engine. It doesnt have the EGR valve or tube or anything I am glad to say. If your car has over 100,000 miles on it, a new catylitic converter would clean up the emissions a good bit. And be sure to have clean oil in the motor.

Re: '93 Escort EGR Valve
I am sure you would have found your EGR valve by now if you had one... there are only so many things connected to the exhaust.
