mystery connector

On my son's 93 Ranger with 4.0 V6, there 1/2 of a barrell type connector hanging loose just behind the distributor. It has two wires, a purple w/yellow tracer, and an orange w/yellow tracer. I can not find what this is supposed to plug into. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Re: mystery connector

Hard to tell without looking at it. Is there anything in the vehicle that is not working or not working properly? You might check if there is any voltage with and without the ignition on. Also if one is a ground wire. Otherwise, as long as everything seemed OK, just secure it and just make a note of it.

Re: mystery connector

I looked under the hood of my 94 Ranger 4.0 and couldn't find anything that looked like that. If everything is working fine I wonder if it could be part of the wiring harness for an option your truck does'nt have?

Re: mystery connector

Thanks for the ideas. The thing that bothers me is that the connector looks so clean. If it is an unused bit and has been hanging there for so long, I would expect it to be dirty. also, for some reason, the truck is a real dog in 5th gear and the mileage has gone south. Perhaps there is no interconnection between the performance issues and the loose wires, but I just don't know. I do know that I have to replace the distributor cap and rotor as they look quite worn.

Re: mystery connector

i dont think there is a cap on that type of motor. least there isnt on mine.

anyways i have that same thing on my 94. from everything i can find it's supposed to be fore automatic transmission vehicles. has to do with the "torque converter clutch solenoid" and the "shift solenoid"

hope that helps.

Re: mystery connector

I just noticed I wrote 4.0 L. The truck has a 3.0. My mistake.
