Removing Center Console

I am replacing the carpet in my 97 grand am GT automatic.

I was looking for any hints or things to watch out for when removing the center console and anything special to do around the shifter and emergency break before I dive in head first.

Most of the other things look pretty easy. Removing Seats, seatbelts and molding around doors. Oh and the gas and trunk lever console.

Any help or hints will be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike.

Re: Removing Center Console

The shifter handle is just held on with a horseshoe clip in the front side. SHould see the cut out where its hiding.

The break levers out side part should slide of the stick which will stay in.

The other things are usualy just held on with screws.
The console its self is held with torx screws if I'm not mistaken.
Might want to use some spray lube on the seat bolts if they are rusty, it'll make it easier to assemble too.

I would recomend using zip lock bagies to hold all those clips, screws and nuts.
I hate having left over parts..

Oh and take your time with fitment before you start making cuts for the edges and around things if its not already cut.

Good Luck !
