Power supply fans not working.

I have an Antec 410w power supply. Recently I noticed neither of its two fans are working. My computer still runs. My 4 other case fans stopped working also, I switched theire power plugs from my power supply's fan only plug onto one of the normal power plugs and they all work. Should I get a new power supply? Its out of warranty.

Re: Power supply fans not working.

I'd say get a new one and one with a little more power like 550 or 600w. I'm using a 750w for now but will upgrade to a 1200w water cooled early next year with tax refund.

Not everybody needs a power plant in their tower. A 410w has plenty of juice for some people, depending on the setup. Anything above 700w is overkill for 98% of people. You would be a fool to go that high.

As per alphalanos, go ahead and get a new power supply. You shouldn't need anything above a 450w unless you plan on extensive upgrades.

Thanks. A little less money that I could have used on my Si down payment

Re: Power supply fans not working.

The reason I'm going to be getting a 1200w power supply is because I'm going to have a quad core cpu, dual 8800 ultra's, 4 1tb hdd's, and full liquid cooling system to cool everything which adds on an additional 10 fans to the 3 I have now. But for alpha around 450-500w would be sufficient as far as you worrying about price you can get a new one from tigerdirect.com for around 30 plus shipping.

Sounds like a whole lot of overkill to me.

Re: Power supply fans not working.

Maybe overkill, but then there is the extra power for upgrades later, certainly dependent on the power 6-8 pin leads amounts.

I disagree, I don't think it's overkill!!!!!! Perhaps a bit excessive, but never overkill.

Think of this, if the OP hopes to drop in a new GPU, say 8800 Nvidea or ATI 2900, those bad boys need their own tap off the PSU and up to two power leads each, in OVER 350 watts to run them.

But, that's if the OP goes there. My point remains, he can if he chooses to with the upper PSU, otherwise he's stuck. And that goes for any other upgrades.

I wasn't only referring to the PSU.

The fans? I agree, THAT is overkill.
