Cruise Problem?

Wanted to see if I had a problem or what. I have a 06 civic hybrid. Just turned 29,000 miles and as soon as it did the problem started. My wife and I were in cruise @ about 72 in a hilly part of MO. Like it's supposed to it raised the rpms to speed the car up with the current hill but when we were on the down side of the hill the rpms just stayed. It was almost as though we lost overdrive. I killed the cruise and still it didn't help. I then pulled off on the side of the road and shut off the car, waited a bit and then turned it back on and went on. Just like before when I went up the next hill it did the same thing. The only wiered thing was that the mpg did not really fall due to this. I know that the accords can cut cylinders in certain conditions but not civics. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here. All help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd answer anyways!

The 2006+ Civics with automatic transmissions have a feature than makes the transmission automatically downshift when travelling down a hill with a steep grade. That's likely all it was, just downshifting from overdrive (5th) into 4th or possibly 3rd gear.
It's a feature that has it's positives and negatives but probably a good thing for most drivers and it'll definitely save your brakes!
