I know that the accords can cut cylinders in certain conditions but not civics. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here. All help is much appreciated.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd answer anyways!
The 2006+ Civics with automatic transmissions have a feature than makes the transmission automatically downshift when travelling down a hill with a steep grade. That's likely all it was, just downshifting from overdrive (5th) into 4th or possibly 3rd gear.
It's a feature that has it's positives and negatives but probably a good thing for most drivers and it'll definitely save your brakes!
