99+ Grand Am - Replacing fuel filter

First you'll need to relieve the fuel pressure.
Either from the schrader valve under the hood(on V6 models) the 4 cyl does not have this schrader valve .

You can also pull the fuel pump fuse # 48 under the hood fuse box.
Start the car and allow it to run untill it dies,
which will releave most of the fuel pressure.

Once that's done,
you'll still need some old rags to catch any fuel the will drain from the line fittings when the fuel filter is disconnected. Watch your eyes!!!

You'll need a wrench for one end,
and the other is clipped in with a plastic retainer clip.
They sell a tool just for this disconnect but is not usually necessary.
This is how the nipple end is connected/held in place.


The Filter is located in the rear of the car,
just above the rear axle shown below.
Here are some pics with instructions....





Be carefull when inserting the nipple end shown above.
If you jamb it in at an angle you can damage the "O" ring that is inside the fuel line fitting,
and is very difficult to replace if at all.
