Just this April I invested in my first purchase of a new car. Being a jeep guy that’s what I went for at first, but also trying to be thrifty, I settled for a grand prix. (Although I wouldn’t call it settling, I’ve loved those things since I was a kid) I got it because I was driving around a beat-up old GMC jimmy which I was lucky to get started and had constant fuel system probs. Now within a week of owning this, its practically the probs all over again….just more dangerous problems. First problem I got was almost identical to my jimmy….didn’t want to start. Only this time, if I goosed it, it would keep running. This is what it does: I crank it, it turns over fine, but about 1/3 of the time it will sputter and die and it seems to do it more often when its hot outside. So if that happens, I pump the gas and give it a little extra fuel, and it starts just fine. It never dies or sputters the whole time once its been started. I had a similar problem with my jimmy, and that turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor.
The other, more dangerous prob someone told me could be the Wheel Speed Sensor. Alright sometimes, when the conditions are right, my brakes will just stop working….yeah, its like that. Usually when I happen to be hitting some bumps while hitting my brakes, my pedal will pop, as if I’m hitting some loose gravel or something, but that has never been the case. It can’t be loose gravel when I’m forced to run a red light in the middle of the city. Since its bumpy when this happens, I’m pretty sure it is some kind of electrical component that’s getting jarred loose and probably just needs tightened. Now for my main Questions: What do you think could be causing these problems? And Where can I finds some free diagrams online so I can find these parts in the car? ![]() ![]() I’ve owned SUVs my whole life and this thing is like an alien spaceship to me, haha. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks guys. |

Re: ’04 Grand Prix ABS and Fuel System
Ok, first I suggest some fuel injector cleaner. I use STP super concentrated, but any will do. That might take care of the sputtering.
For the wheel sensors, I had this problem when I had the car lowered and the shop forgot to reconnect them .If you take each wheel off, you'll easily see a loom of wires going to each hub/wheel assembly. All you have to do is make sure that they are tightly connected and that the connections are clean. I don't have a diagram, but it's very easy. They are a bit of a b!*ch to get to lock in place so use a little force, but make sure that you have them the right way. I'm guessing that one of yours is just loose and that's why you have intermittent problems. Hope that helps, Dan

Re: ’04 Grand Prix ABS and Fuel System
So yeah, just checked the connections to my brakes and they were all clean with good connections. And i really doubt my starting issues could be related to engine build up. I put some STP in it when I got it and it didn't help at all.
So does anyone know where I can find the computer for my ABS under the hood or maybe any other suggestions?

Re: ’04 Grand Prix ABS and Fuel System
ok, I don't know what the problem is with the fuel, but i have that as wheel. However for the breaks try checking out the wheel bearing. Fpr mine i bought it at 75,000 dec 2006 and the driver side bearing was bad the last october 2007 i had 100,100 miles and both of the wheel bearing where bad. I paid over $700 and the breaks worked wonderful!!! well let me know.
