1996 LeSabre misses on acceleration

I have a 1996 LeSabre and it misses on hard acceleration. It also won't rev beyond and pulsates at 4000 rpms.

Re: 1996 LeSabre misses on acceleration

Well Ron:

I am not a mechanic, but I did own a 96 custom that had about 75,000 miles on it when I bought and about 106k when I sold it.

I also an 01 with 85k and an 02 with 50k. Both are running great.

What you have doesn't sound good. Have you done a compression check on all cylinders? Checked plugsrunaround and wires?

Those would be my thoughts, other than you might want to find a steep cliff and start over. Just kidding.

Good luck.

Re: 1996 LeSabre misses on acceleration

In addition to the compression test, do a fuel pressure test, check for error codes (have them read by a mechanic or wherever you can get them checked). It also could be the transmission acting up. It sounds like a trip to the dealership FOR DIAGNOSIS ONLY is a good idea at this point. If they can identify your problem and if it is simply a matter of part changing, decline the repair and change the part yourself. They can do transmission tests that are impossible without expensive equipment that virtually no home mechanic is going to have.

Of course it could be other things as well, thus the recommendation to get it looked at professionally.
