how do I fill a/c with freon

the compressor won't kick on cuz the filler hose busted when I was adding freon, and it all came out. how do I get it to come on so it will start taking freon on its own?

Never Never F with the A/C unit unless you are trained and have the proper test equipment here in Canada it is ilegal to F with any A/C unit unless you are certfied. later

I appreciate Rolm's position. In the US it is not illegal to work on your own system. It is illegal to leak CFC's into the atmosphere, but you had a hose fail. If your system has been open and gone "atmospheric", I would let a shop put a vacuum pump on it to remove air/moisture. With that said however, you system should kick on (the compressor) when you have added enough freon to close the low pressure switch - not up to date on the GM's but it is about 23psi on a Ford.

You were refilling your system and found a leak where you lost 100% of your refridgerant. You are now responsible to fix the leak -which makes sense since your A/C will not work without fixing the leak first.

Never knew Canada used A/C: Fact, I thought they were still using blocks of ice stored from Winter.

We Canadians love it when americans think the above, that keeps you from comming to Canada and we get to have all this free space all to ourselfs oh I should have said all this frozen open space as a matter of fact it is 20 below today. later

haha....95% of canadas population lives in the southern half of the country....for the most part that means the climate in canada is near identical to the northern states (southern ontrio is identical to the state of maine for example...maybe a little warmer) ....I generally use my a/c from the end of may to the beginning of october sometime. Through the summer months its not unusual to see 35 degree temperatures with a humidX that feels like 45 (thats 95 f 113 with humidity in case you were wondering) But yeh its usually snowing and we all live in igloos and i hear tomorrow they may be upgrding toronto to have electricity! wow lol

I was just commenting on Canada's efficient use (and distribution) of ice and their solutions on helping Al Gore with his global-warming/C02 problem. -You are da man!

Their is absolutely nothing wrong with utilizing blocks of ice for cooling. It's the time honored traditions that I enjoy the most about Canada/Kanadians. Riding your snomobile to school and playing hockey with dad/mpm are high on my list also. -Every night is national hockey night etc.

The liberal government can really ruin it though. Crime is up in the cities with the increased immigrants. -Leave it to the liberals to ruin a good thing. (appreciate what you have before you lose it)

Thanks for the advice. Point 1 Al Gore is a nut bar please keep him home. Point 2, immigrants come here spend a few years or so get their Canadian Citizenships and they head down to the US once they or their kids get sick they are back in Canada on the next plane " nothing like free medical" Point 3 95% ot the immigrants benefit the economy only the blacks dudes from the islands are a net loss and you are correct they are real bad dudes. Pray for the supper cold winters that keeps many of the black dudes out of here. Now back to the A/C question I can't believe Al Gore hasn't tried to ban the re-charge kits They are a wast of money and they almost don't solve a thing. Later

gee thanks for the education on canada and the environment. I guess up in Canada if you spring a leak in your radiator u back track for miles and make sure u clean up your toxic waste u spilled. accidents do happen and equipment fails. especially in Arizona where it gets a bit warm in summer if you don't have anything helpfull to say y not just keep quite!

Buttom line it make no sense for you to top the toxic A/c with freon unless you fix the leak 1st. I hate paying for repairs but there is a wright way and a wrong way of fixing stuff. later
