96' Cutlass Supreme SL Caught fire....HELP!!
My Aunt has a 1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL golden edition and something happeded under the dash. (So I think). She was just driving and she saw a heep of smoke pooring out of the dash and thought she saw glowing flames under the dash. I looked at the car today, but everthing seemed fine. I hooked the battery up, turned the ignition on, started it, no smoke, nothing. Everything worked. The only thing, it took 3 long cranks before it steped on the gas to get it started. I think it was becasue the ECU was reset when the batery was disconected. All the wiring underneith looked fine also. I don't know what it was, but does anyone know anything about this? Is it a common problem? I was told on my 93' supreme S that there is silicon grease on some of the wires, and it sometimes smokes, (mine was on my steering colum, so IDK, Thanks! Please HELP!

Re: 96' Cutlass Supreme SL Caught fire....HELP!!
Welcome to AF, if she saw flames there must be something burnt, only on site inspection can answer your question, just a wisp of smoke could come from the signal switch posssibly. If something really burned the odor would be unmistakeable.

Re: 96' Cutlass Supreme SL Caught fire....HELP!!
to my best knowledge that it was probably a transistor or integrated circuit that could of smoked up. rarely it would catch fire. she must of seen the lightbulbs burn out. id take it to a repair shop or a gm certified repair center in that case.
