v6 distributer wiring

We just got a 1993 4runner v6 3.0 EFI from a guy who doesn't know which end of a wrench to pick up. So he cut the wires going to the distributer and tried to put them on the inside of the wiring clip. so if some one could please go out and look under the hood and take a picture or find me a wiring diagram would be a great deal of help.

All of the following information is in the 1993 Pick-up Service Manual in the sticky post at the top of this forum.

The firing order for your engine is 1-2-3-4-5-6. From the front of the right bank the cylinders are numbered 1–3–5, and from the front of the left bank the cylinders are numbered 2–4–6.

Remove the spark plug from the front-most cylinder on the right side of the enging (passenger side). This is the No. 1 cylinder.

Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise (as viewed from the front of the engine) and align its groove with timing mark ”0” of the No.1 timing belt cover while you hold a broom stick or something over the spark plug hole. If the attempt at plugging the hole is foiled by the piston compressing air and blowing air out the hole, then you are on the compression stroke where you want to be. If there is no air being blown forcibly out the hole, then you are on the exhaust stroke and you have to rotate the engine another 360 degrees (one whole turn).

Once you have the engine timed to be to have the No. 1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke, take off the distributor cap and the rotor will be pointed at the contact for the No. 1 cylinder spark plug wire. Attach the spark plug wire for the number one cylinder to the corresponding tower on the distributor cap and then attach the other spark plug wires in the firing order around the distributor cap from the No. 1 wire in a clockwise direction.

thanks that helped. but all i need now is a picture or some one saying what order are the colors on the wires going in to the wiring harness clip to the distributer. they were cut and we have no idea where the wires go in the clip.

Can't you tell by testing continuity between the contacts within the distributor cap and the harness clip?

well we really don't know how to do that. if i could just get which order the wires go into the clip or a pic of them it would be perfect. cause the wires were cut going into the clip and then they were all mixed up. it runs better now that we timed it but the check engine light still puts the 52 and 12 codes for the distributer and knock sensor. we got a new knock sensor and just waiting for that. but we still think some wires might be crossed going into the clip.

Normally it is the wiring or connections in the wiring to the knock sensor that is causing a knock sensor code and not the sensor itself.

well we are going to replace it just to be on the safe side. now can we please just have what color wires go where into the clip. thats all we need.
