1996 taurus transmission,wont shift into 4th

I'm having problems with a 1996 ax4n not shifting into 4th gear. I believe the problem is with some sort of clip for the valve body? The car shifts fine into the other gears, nice and solid. The fluid and filter are clean and were replaced 2 months ago and there are no visible leaks. I have read about this clip going bad in earlier forums and would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. Thanks

Re: 1996 taurus transmission,wont shift into 4th

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure if you 1996 uses a similar OD servo to the earlier generation Taurus. I replaced the $0.17 e-clip to get 4th gear working on my 1993 Taurus SHO and recently provided the photos to someone else on this forum that said that was all that was wrong with theirs as well.

If you'd like me to send you the photos as well (low resolution) send me a Private Message with an e-mail address for you that can accept attachments along with a description of your request and I'll send the pics along.

Use the "Search this forum" feature from the Taurus forum main page to see what year their Taurus was that was fixed by this e-clip as well.
