acceleration issue?
I've noticed this for a bit, while driving ill go and slowly, even normally step on the gas, and ill see the fuel economey guage move but the engine wont pick up speed, sometimes it will do this. i have to release the gas and kinda stomp on it if i want to accelerate quickly. is that normal? timing has already been adjusted, car was completely tuned up a few months back, and air filter is clean. hope i explainined the problem as best as i could.

Re: acceleration issue?
it could be your accelerator pump if you have a carb.
the accelerator pump is the thing that squirts gas into the carb to get the whole process of acceleration started. so as not to bore you, i wont get into the fine details, but the basic fact is that without it, acceleration (more so, pickup, or response to throttle inputs) will be slow, no matter how well the car is tuned otherwise most mpg meters simply read engine vacuum and guestimate mileage from that the reason it reacts is because when you open the throttle, the vacuum goes away, and it assumes the car is using more gas. the only ones that are gonna be at all acurate are the digital ones you find on modern cars. |

Re: acceleration issue?
ohhh ok i get what you mean about the vaccum guage. ill have a look at the accelerator pump then, what should i look for and how would i be able to tell if its functioning?

Re: acceleration issue?
Shut off the engine, remove the air cleaner assembly, and hold the choke plate open. Observe the two primary throttle bores and specifically, the secondary venturis centered in the bores. Operate the throttle by hand and see if two solid, straight streams of fuel are squirted onto the secondary venturis or down into the bores (one stream of fuel per bore). If there is no shot of fuel, the accelerator pump is suspect.

Re: acceleration issue?
yeah i do see 2 steady streams of gas, so that seems to be good.

Re: acceleration issue?
well it may be squirting gas, but its possible that it isnt enough
it is possible to adjust it, but i couldnt tell you right now. is this a problem that just showed up one day, or was it a developing issue? |

Re: acceleration issue?
well i noticed it for a while, but it never really bothered me til now, i know the car always kind of had issues with acceleration, it was worse before but that was before the timing was adjusted

Re: acceleration issue?
I think this may be a transmission issue also, i was on the highway today and it took forever for the car to speed up, it just felt like it had no power and the tranny wouldnt shift

Re: acceleration issue?
correction: when i press the gas i can hear the engine reving but it takes a while to get the car moving along....

Re: acceleration issue?
could be trans slippage then.
with mine, i cant simply floor the pedal and expect it to go i either have to roll into the gas slowly, or downshift manually, let the carb settle down, then floor it. no carb is ever gonna respond the way an 07 honda accord will. you simply wont have the response. i think in your case though, it is truly a transmission issue. slippage is bad get it checked out if you have done any power mods to the engine, then expect the trans to suffer. it wasnt made to take that much abuse for too long |

Re: acceleration issue?
yeah ill have it checked out then definetly, but yeah if i ease onto the gas slowly i can feel it shifting fine, but if i have to merge into traffic, to where i have to speed up a bit quickly, then thats when it lags. only mod ive done so far was an air intake filter, everything else is stock still.
