I am looking at an 1988 4runner, all I have ever had and worked on are fullsize fords. I have no idea what to look for. So far i have come too the conclusion that the frame is solid and there are no leaks. Any other suggestions for what to look for?

Is it the V6 SR5 or the 4 Cyliner 22RE? The head gaskets on the first batch of SR5's was a recall, has it been done? Check the timing chain for the 22RE or find out when it was done last. Check around the engine for oil drips, or build up of any kind. Check out the 4Hi and 4Low for noise or ease of shifting in and out. Check the suspension leaf springs in the back. Motor for the Back window, does it work or what kind of shape is it in? Does the rear wiper and pump work. Check all the switches in the center console, rear defog? Center console heater?

That's the basics of what I would check at least. How does it act first started in the day? Honestly I think the 22RE is the toughest engine around, if maintained properly.

Yeah its the 22RE, all the electrical works but i have no idea about the timing chain, i will find out though thanks. Any other suggestions?
