Our tax dollars and FEMA's wasting of it.

Basically the story is FEMA bought $24,000,000 of ice (85,000,000 lbs.)in anticipation for last year's hurricane season. Since the season was not as expected, they no longer need it so the order went out to dispose of it. A company near where I live was one of the places that stored the ice for FEMA. Last week they started trucking pallet after pallet of ice out of the warehouse and into the parking lot to melt. I think FEMA should have done a better job of finding an alternate way to use the ice or donate it where it is needed. What a waste of our tax dollars. Yeah, FEMA is still reeling from the loss of leadership and top managment talent that Pres. Bush caused with his political appointees that were sent there to gut the agency in the name of conservatism.

First stage in gutting a public service - convince the taxpayer that it is wasting public money.

FEMA did not order that the ice be dumped - the decision would have fallen to one particular individual. Find him and fire him.

I heard tonight that FEMA had been storing ice since Katrina , that our gov bought.

Now the gov is saying to destory it after spending $24 million on buying and storing it...

Makes me not want to give them anymore of my money

Like you have a choice. FEMA is a government agency, not a charity, and your taxes pay for it. But is a grand example of how Bushs leadership by incompetance, croneyism and corruption has permeated our government.

They have not only been storing ice after Katrina, they continued to buy even more last year in anticipation of the hurricane season,(and we all know how that turned out.) This on top of the ice they already purchased previously and had been storing. Our US Senator Schumer said in a news report that they didn't have to buy all that ice and store it in anticipation of needing it, they could've contracted out to different vendors in the country to supply ice as needed and that would work out better, saving the taxpayers' money on added storage costs , the upfront costs of production, and now the disposal of the ice.

I guess I left out the part about why they had to destory the ice. They said now it wasnt good enough for human consumption. Like it was to begin with

We're right on this one, Bush and his Administration are real fuck-ups, and thank god they only got a short time left.
And Frankly I'm tired of paying for thier mistakes


Oh I had an idea what they could do with the ice ...
Dump it up north to stop the glaciers from melting so fast ....

There are many more valuable ways they could of disposed of the ice as well. Dumping it in areas where there are droughts currently, use it on farms to keep the livestock cool, etc. the possibilities are endless.
