Problems starting 98 Rodeo
Just recently we've been having trouble starting our 98 V6 2WD Rodeo.
It appears to only happen when the car has been sitting for more than 4-5 hours. For example, in the morning it takes a while (and giving it gas) to start it up,...but if I stop the engine and immediately start it again, it will fire right back up. Also, no issues while running. No stalls or rough idle / power loss. No starter or battery issues either. It cranks fine,...just hard to get it to start without giving it gas. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. Jim |

Re: Problems starting 98 Rodeo
Sounds like a bad fuel presser regulator to me. See the FAQ's for more info.

Re: Problems starting 98 Rodeo
I read the FAQ, and it sounds like that may be the problem.
<I feel like an idiot asking this> I have the Haynes manual for my Rodeo, and I was out there for an hour trying to locate the regulator....can someone point me in the right direction? The manual I have covers 89-02 Rodeos/Amigos, and the illustrations don't show a '98 3.2L V6 location. I'm trying to learn about this stuff on my own to save a little $$, and I am running into constant roadblocks. Thanks for helping a newb, Jim |

Re: Problems starting 98 Rodeo
you might not think you'd be saving any money when you see the price of these things, but they are *very* good, if sometimes a bit of a problem following the organization -- sometimes one component might be convered in several different areas, e.g. i do think they will save you lots of money that you'd be wrongly throwing at parts otherwise.
www.helminc.com consider getting the main manual, the trans manual and especially the electrical manual that has photos and locations of just about every component. it is great. also very valuable is the official isuzu parts site, even if you're not looking to buy parts, because they have full and complete parts illustrations for everything which can often help you locate things if you don't have the manual. www.myisuzuparts.com //bc

Re: Problems starting 98 Rodeo
bc,
Thanks very much for your reply. The isuzuparts link was awesome. It showed me the diagram I needed to track it down. Looks like the regulator is buried under the regulator protector. I'm debating whether or not to do anything since the problem isn't a BIG problem (yet). Even so,...I might be afraid to replace it. Dealing with the fuel system seems like scary work. The manuals make it sound easy (relieve the fuel pressure, remove the in and out hoses, and replace)......arghhh what to do ! Jim |

Re: Problems starting 98 Rodeo
Sounds like you already possess the interest and patience to do it yourself. Go for it!

Re: Problems starting 98 Rodeo
I know this is a little late but that screw is a bitch to get to. I replaced mine and I had a few choice words with it.
