TPS or Transmission--URGENT

hey yall,
i think i have a tough one to solve. last night, raining if it matters, i got into my truck, turned the ignition to crank it up and nothing happened. over head lights imediatily turned of and i had no power. this has happened before with other vehicles that i have owned. just as i suspected, the battery cable was loose. however, as i tightened it up, i heard a rapid clicking noise for about 3-4 seconds, it sounded like the solenoid. i got in, the truck started right up, but the O/D light started flashing--the typical 8 seconds as i have other state about the nissans. in addition, the service engine soon light came on and stayed on. from park to drive or reverse is fine, but it will onlyshift up to the next gear when i hit 4000 RPM, no matter how much i baby it. it will not go into overdrive either. i got the codes checked and it read out p1705--it is the TPS. could it be this simple, that the TPS just got fried in the mishap,or could this potentially be something more serious. I have checked all the fuses, 1 blew, but i have replaced it and nothing improved. other than the shifting (which is a hard shift) it drives fine. it doesnt seem to be searching for the next gear or miss a gear or anything. down shift seems ok too.

please help -- i commute 55 miles (one way) every day. thanks

Re: TPS or Transmission--URGENT

I'd start with the tps, I've fried a few on some other cars and the symptoms sound the same. It's around $100, most places have it in stock, and a fairly easy task, just make sure you line things up. Other than the shifting issues, do you have any other problems?

This an Xterra board you know.

They're probably charging you all labor to pull the transmission and replace the seal (maybe it has to be cracked open). Best to get a Haynes manual and some friends and do it yourself if you don't have the $500.
