Third Gen. Tach Problems
Hey guys, its me tacoma man, you guys should remember me from a few years ago. my old profile stopped working so i had to make a new one.
Anyway, my tach in my 90 rs is going haywire. at idle it says around 4500 and cruising down the road it tachs plum out to the needle. my car has the factory 5.0 ltr tbi injection engine. can i repair this myself? Is genopsyde still around? maybe he can help me. Thanks James |

If you're good at diagnosing electronics you could fix it..but for the average Joe? Nope. All 3rd gen tachs go through what your's is, its just part of them getting old.

Before doin that, make sure the TACH reference wire off the coil isn't nicked or pinched somewhere.

I'm not too sure about that, the 90-92 clusters are a single unit where none of the individual gauges are removable. I could be wrong tho, it's been known to happen.

the clusters in the pontiacs are different than the ones in the chevy's. here's a pic of the 90-92 camaro cluster...
