Recomend tires for Corolla

A roofing nail is lodged in the 03 Corolla rear tire. Since the shop refused to repair it, since it is too close to side wall, I gotta replace the tire/tires.

The existing 4 tires that came with the new car is the Goodyear Integrity P185 65R. The tires have about 50K miles on them. I could go with the same tire or tires or better ones I guess.

Please recommend a specific tire for this car. Should I replace 2 or 4? Any other suggestions? What feautures should I look for while selecting the tires?. The car will be driven mostly in city traffic and 4 months of snow conditions.

Thanks.

Re: Recomend tires for Corolla

Rule of thumb is if the car has ABS brakes you always replace tires in 2's, preferably the same make and tread pattern. If it's all-wheel drive, you have to replace all 4. (I know, it bites, but the circumference is important on these vehicles). On the other hand, the Integrity is an OEM tire and if you're going to spend the money, you should consider upgrading. Since you're in Wisconsin, the Goodyear Triple Tread is great in snow. Also, the Bridgestone Turanza is a great tire.

Thanks RickMN.

The Goodyear Triple Tread is about 150 bucks a tire, too much for me. Bridgestone Turanza is within my range.

Now I have Good Year Integrity P185/65R15 86 S on the 2003 Toyota Corolla CE. I did some consumer report search and am thinking about replacing all the four tires with Yokohoma Avid TRZ P195/65R15 89 S. The Toyota manual says that I can use either of these two. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these two configurations? I am planning to get this done before the start of winter so time is on my side, I guess, as far as this is concerned.

Is this new configuration, i.e. 195-89, a smart or dumb thing to do? Any suggestions or comments. Thanks again.
