Instant mileage all over the place

When driving on the level with the cruise on or manually, my instant mileage will jump from 15 then 35 and back and forth constantly. Has anyone had this issue? Any fixes besides back to the dealer?
Thanks!
Allen

Re: Instant mileage all over the place

Are you talking about the reading on your DIC that tells you how many miles you have left on th gas in your tank? That varies up and down according to speed, engine load and other factors, and can even vary when your cruise is on. For example the mileage may drop as you go up a hill and the engine is under load, then when you level off and drive a little further on a straight stretch of road it may go back to where it was when it started or may even be higher than the original value. The computer is constantly analyzing the figures so that is why it varies so much. If the vehicle is still under warranty you could take it back and describe the problem. It could be something as minor as a defective sensor.
