New Project: Aoshima VIP Toyota Aristo..

Today my HLJ order came in, one Aoshima Junction Aristo and some various rims/supplies. Well I had planned on making the Aristo for my piano teacher as a Christmas present, as he is a bit old and would like that sort of car. So, taking a break from FOTW's 180SX to finish this in time for Christmas.

I've never built an Aoshima kit before, and it's a pleasant surprise...the amount of sprues they included was staggering

Quite a shock, they've even included a small sheet of sanding paper, yeah, like I'm gonna need that but it's a nice gesture.

Also my first experience with Aoshima rims, wow, leagues apart from Fujimi Separate chrome rings, the rims are painted in some kind of light aluminum color.

Here are the brakes, they included some big Brembos, now I know this sounds a little dirty but I'm not sure if I want to include them, they'd make nice rims for other projects and he probably wouldn't know the difference anyway ...but the kit ones are ridiculously small..Maybe I'll find a compromise in my parts bin

These are the other Aoshima rims I ordered, wow! Not sure which to use

Finally, a nice maroon metallic for the body.. I think this would be a nice fitting "old man" color, P-man what do you think? :finger: :finger: j/k

Nice looking order, the wheels are the same as the ones i used on my yellow EVO....Love those wheels :flash: :flash:
Paint colour looks good for it

If you build it half as good as a bike we are all in for a treat with updates

I really fancy doing an Aristo! Good choice of colour, i think the multispoke rims (look like Stimulator's) would suit the car better.

Your gonna end up with a far too nice lookin model to give away, what u wan't to go do that for?

Thumbs up Nice kit

I got the Falcon Aristo at a show this summer, I really like the kit, and the rims are really cool. You're going to hate giving that model away, you should build two at once, give away the "practice" model and keep the better one! I know, I did that once...someone paid me once to build a Monogram RX7 for their g/f, it's a nice basic kit...so I built two identical models, and kept one...it felt almost like I was being paid to build myself a model.

I've got two Aristo kits now, the stock one and the Falcon. I've got a friend who drives a Lexus GS 300 version of the same car, I might build the stock one like his...but the wheels are wrong, there's no LHD dash in the kit and it's "just" a leased company car. Nice ride though...I don't complain when he has to drive somewhere

I wasn't too impressed w/driving the car...kind of soft and not really fast enough (only 220hp) for a $43,000 car, it would be far better (and $10,000 more) w/the 300 hp 430 engine

Ah we're talking about a Lexus GS300 - like an Altezza being a Lexus IS200!! Welcome to uniformity

Yeah, because here in the states we have the Lexus IS300 (no 200), and rumors of an IS430 coming as well. Most Americans have never heard of the Toyota Altezza or Aristo.

We also have the GS300 and GS430, which look identical unless you open the hood or the throttle! My friend looked a bit puzzled when I told him his Lexus is "just" a Toyota Aristo in Japan. He had no clue...

I guess the Lexus brand is a bit different in Europe vs the US, in Japan I think they're all "just" Toyotas.

Smile

I've got three different Aristo kits, they all have different aero kits on them. The GT Wing version came with AVS 5's!:flash:

Hehe...the way I figure, if this turns out to be really nice then wanting one will be just more inspiration for the next VIP car

Here's a pic of the body being primed, I primed all the sprues with Duplicolor Primer Sealer today (which is pretty nice, goes on very thin.)

I wish Aoshima molded the headlights separate so that it would be easier to BMF or chrome them.
