Re: thunderbird power windows

The gears on the motors are probably stripped.

McLin- berg5 said both motors still run but the windows don't move. Can you hear the motors running in your doors? I don't know what rivet you are asking about.

Re: thunderbird power windows

Hi,

yes both motors running but windows dont move, i can just make windows down, when i take hands inside and otside and push it down.
But the windows are fixed, so when i drive the windows go not down by self.

Re: thunderbird power windows

Gears are not actually stripped, they have 3 little nylon 'clutch' bushigs and tey get stripped, when you take the gears out you will see chunks of this stuff in the grease. There are repair kits all over the internet for about $10 a side or whole assemblies for $30-$40. Make sure to clean all the debris out.

I have 4-5 80s-90's Fords and Lincolns they might have different gears but all had those stupid nylon parts. I have repalced all one point or the other. I got lucky on my 85 Tbird - it had the same gear as my 65' which was all metal. I used a set from the 65 and 15 years later they were still going strong.
