D15 With 400+hp

I want to build a D15 for my 93 Civic hatch and I want to go all out! My goal is 400hp. What would be the best setup for this? I DO NOT WANT TO SWAP!

Re: D15 With 400+hp

Unless you have the jdm D15B vtec, your best bet is to swap. I'm not saying go for a B, H/F, or K-series; just another D-series. Something like the D16Z6 ('92-'95 Si & EX engine), D16Y8 ('96-'00 EX), or one of the other jdm sohc D-series vtec engines.

After that; pistons, rods, sleeves, P&P head, aftermarket intake manifold, cam w/valvetrain, a good engine management system (no fmu and bigger injectors, or an apexi vafc), wideband O2 sensor, boost gauge, upgrade fuel delivery system (injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, etc), turbo kit (either piece together one yourself if you're confident enough, or buy a good one; no e-bay shit), race gas, and finally take it to a reputable shop and have them tune it.

Here's a good site to check out: Evans-Tuning
Find a dyno sheet for a D-series engine and copy their setup.

Also check out various web sites specific to turbo'd D-series.

OK. I SAID I DO NOT WANT TO SWAP! CivicSpoon is not a very brite guy. I was thinking about a D15z1 from the vx. Its a 1.5L 16v sohc with VTec. I want to build a D15 because its like the little guy of honda the one no one likes and i want to show ppl he can make big power to. Now are there any people out there with any parts recommendations like what rods should i use or what pistons or crank??? any ideals will help.

Ok, lets break this down. 1) CS gave the same answer any knowledgeable member would, and I back it. 2) The Z1 is not standard VTEC, it's VTEC-E which is an acronym for sucky. 3) Again, like CS said, the only D15 worth building is the JDM D15B which is VTEC. If you want, you can keep your block and swap the head for a VTEC head from a z6 but that'll raise your compression so you'll have to get even lower compression pistons to compensate. The money you'd have to put into a regular D15 to make 400 reliable horses is just plain dumb. See if you can find cheap-o Z6 or D15B and build it while you drive your car now. Then when it's done, just swap out motors and it's done. One weekend of downtime vs. months. Also, Honda cranks are notoriously strong, it should hold 400 HP. As for rods and pistons, your possibilities are endless. Read up on turbod16.com. Great site.

And for the record, yes, a 400HP D series has a much higher "cool factor" but it comes at a much higher price. In all honesty, I'd try to find a B series with a spun bearing or something and start from there. Way more parts for B series and DOHC VTEC gives more tuning control. You're the one with the money though, so spend it how you like.

HAHA!!! That is hilarious. Ok, first off, why don't you re-read the first sentence in my response. "Unless you have the jdm D15B vtec, your best bet is to swap." Let's think about this in a logical manner. Why in the world would I put bold on the word "is"? Hmmm...maybe for emphasis. So, let's look at that sentence again... Unless you have a JDM D15B... your best bet IIIIIIIIIIIIIISS to swap. If you want to go all out, and you want the best setup, YOU HAVE TO SWAP IT!!! In other words, I was trying to say that I understand that you don't want to swap it, but if you seriously want that kind of power, you have to. Regardless of what you want to do in your mind, you're going to have to swap it. There is NO way around it. On top of it, you now state that you have a VX engine. There is a reason people don't use those engines for performance, it's because they are garbage. Good luck using that crank, and then using your technical knowledge to figure out what pistons and rods will work with that; and not just smack the head every turn of the crank. Good luck trying to figure out what other crank will work with the block (here's a hint...none). Good luck spending a ton of $ for a custom ground cam to work with the head (you're not going to push that kind of power with the stock one). The VX engine is a vtec-e, "e" standing for economy. It was 1 of Honda's test engines to figure out a way to get economy as well as some power at higher rpms. It was never meant to perform on any kind of level. Some times, no matter how inspired or how set you are on doing something, it's just not possible or at least not practice. And maybe next time you should be a little more respectful to someone who's only trying to help you, and who obviously knows a hell of a lot more than you do. I gave you a hell of a lot more info than most people ever would, and all you can do is cop an attitude. Have fun wasting you $ and blowing your engine up. But don't listen to me, I'm obviously not a very brite guy (it's spelled bright btw).

Re: D15 With 400+hp

OK. So anyways the z1 is not good then would the D15b7 work better? Right now i have a D15b8 with a b7 head. What D16 head could i use? and the rods in some D16s are the same but are thay stronger?

Re: D15 With 400+hp

making a d15 with 400hp is almost as pointless as twin turboing a stock d series... ya people may go "oh thats cool", but ultimatly, someone who spends the same money with a b series will make a fool out that d series..

but like i always say.. its your car, and your money..

and all CS tried to do was save you a lot of time, money and fustration.... and having an attitude here with very knowlegable and experianced members will not make for an enjoyable stay here.... and the fact that he still gave you info (even if it was in his pissed off, sarcastic way) is not like other members. Other members, including myself on a bad day, would have politly told you to guzzle toxic waste you pathetic waste of skin.

Now that we have that out of the way, he was most likely talking about the d16z6 head

And PS.. posting info about some missed engines is great.... but posting only one per respose is annoying and wont earn you any respect here. you should have kept them all to one response seperated by a blank line.

Re: D15 With 400+hp

I wasnt trying to make anyone mad here its just that i want to build a D15 not any other D's H's F's B's or K's maby you dont see the reason for my want to build a D15 but i will. Its like some one makeing the "Fastest CRX" well i want to make a D15 with the most hp when ever some one says they would like to know what parts would be good for there D15 you guy allways tell them to swap even if they dont want to. you say "your wasting your time" or "your wasting your money" GreenBlurr93 Ive seen some of your post on here and you would be the guy i would trust to give me good infomation. All i was looking for was some info on some good parts not for you guys to drill it into my head to swap. I plan on blowing up a few blocks just to see how much they can take and with what parts.

Re: D15 With 400+hp

yes as far as you making power, a d series is a waste of money, you can make more power with a b series cheaper... BUT i also said its your car and money, do what you want. and if you want to build the ultimate d series.. go for it, but expect a lot of people to question it and suggest other routes
