Replacing O-Ring Seals on Compressor? Possible?
Hi all:
Everyone I have talked to on this forum has been great and I have learned a great deal. My sister has a 1993 2.2 Litre Cavalier that I have basically rebuilt from the ground up: Bodywork/rust removal, interior, electrical connections, head gasket, motor mounts, exhaust, suspension, etc. Now, the AC compressor has a slight leak right behind the clutch pulley. I have tried injecting some stop leak, but it still seeps out while driving. I thought about buying a used unit, but don't want to deal with the same problem due the age of the vehicles. I also tried to track down a reasonably priced reman online, but can't justify paying $150.00 plus shipping for a vehicle that has about 170K miles. My question is, is there a way to remove the clutch assembly and replace the o-ring(s) on the outer shaft to stop the leak? I would be willing to replace both end seals if I could rent a tool to remove the clutch and be able to reassemble everything back again. Are the O-rings available at a local parts store? Has anyone ever done this? If so, please contact me and advise whether this is even possible. It is really hot here in Chicago and I hate the fact that she has no air!! Thanks all. I look forward to hearing back from someone soon. Ted, Chicago |

E-mail them and see what they have to say. I've used them in the past and they were very helpful.
