Angry i cant believe people get away with the crappy work that they do!!!!

like my windshield. i got it replaced for the first time on may 25. on may 30 the guy had to come back out to get off the black gooey urethane he had gotten on my paint. everything is fine and dandy til last week when im in florida on vacation. i lift up my rubber floor mat (the kind that's 1" thick and holds like a gallon of water) and find about 1/2" of water in my passenger side footwell! i call the ford dealership to see what the problems could possibly be and he said it could be a leak from my windshield. i call up the place that did my windshield and they say bring it on in. so... i went in after work on friday and another guy (who didnt install the windshield the first time) looked at my windshield and said, "you know, i have to be honest with you, this is probably the worst job i've ever seen. now i dont know if it's the windshield that's causing the leak in your car, but if it's okay with you i'd like to go ahead and re-do it on monday anyway."

so, i take my car over there on my lunch break yesterday at 1130am and when i go there to pick it up at 445pm it's still not done. around 530pm they finish and i drive off.....but then i hear wind rushing in from the bottom of the windshield. youuuuu betcherass i turned right around and went back!! they looked at it again and said that there was a piece of molding that was about an inch higher than it should be and so they fixed that and i left at about 610pm. freaking bullspit.

so today im driving to work and i hear wind rushing around from i dont even know where. i just know that i shouldnt be hearing it. PLUS the new windshield they installed has MAJOR optical distortion on the driver and passenger side which makes me feel like im driving with a funhouse-glass windshield!!!! PLUS i asked the guy to shopvac my carpet as dry as it would get and it rained last night and now the CARPET IS WET AGAIN. although i didnt check to see the dampness of the carpet after he shopvac-ed it, there's NO way it could still be that wet when he said he vacuumed the carpet, lifted it up and squeezed the water out of the pad under the carpet, and vacuumed under the carpet.

i dont even want to take my car back to them to fix it again now. i want them to pay for me to get it done somewhere else. is this a reasonable request? i mean, i'm going to need a THIRD windshield! i wear contacts and my vision is bad enough as it is... i dont need a bad windshield to make it worse and give me headaches!! im definitely gonna go down there after i get off work though. man, are they gonna hear it from me. this many mess-ups on one damn vehicle is absolutely ridiculous. i guess thats what i get when i try to save a few bucks and go to the cheap guys.

haha! on my lunch break i called the glass shop to tell them about the distorted glass and the wet carpet and the guy said he would reorder the glass. i told him i wanted to look at the glass before they install it and he said that that was fine. and as i was hanging up the phone i hear him shout, "this is bull-!" i can imagine the next half of that word, and i agree wholeheartedly.

Yep. If life has taught me anything, its that there's always a certain amount of quality that you get for the price you pay.

Re: i cant believe people get away with the crappy work that they do!!!!

I actually had a guy install my windshield and break the t-top on my camaro. They paid for it....... a month and a half later. They only did this after I contact the state about thier state inspection practices (which were questionable). It sucks that you have to get rude to get a job done the right way. Did they just think you wouldn't notice the windshield problem?

thats why i have windshield insurance... if they do a bad job, call the insurance company and they stop giving them work (after they fix your car for free)

Re: i cant believe people get away with the crappy work that they do!!!!

greenblurr, i just so happen to work for an independent insurance agency and you can bet i'm not going to be sending them ANY of my business and they did fix my car for free.

third time seems to be the charm though. i got my third windshield installed yesterday and aside from the blobs of urethane oozing out of the passenger side column, it's a good job. my car is in the shop today to see if the heater core needs to be replaced, since replacing the windshield didnt help the leak which was the reason i took my car back to the glass shop in the first place!

well, is it water or antifreeze? if its water then its not your heater core... one of the gromets on my firewall fell out and when it rains i get a little water on the floor... check your doors weatherstripping.

Re: i cant believe people get away with the crappy work that they do!!!!

well, when i first noticed the puddle under my floor mat the water i was getting out was orange-tinted. my 04 ford uses orange type antifreeze so it may be antifreeze, but i also dont know how long it had been leaking for because of my floor mats being so thick so it may have just been really dirty water. plus, i havent noticed any kind of antifreeze smell.

i havent checked the door weatherstripping because i can see exactly where the water is coming from under the dash. also, it doesnt seem to leak any worse when it rains. the guy who installed my windshield said he ran water over my windshield with a hose for a good 15 min and no water was dripping into my footwell. but it's in the shop now at the dealership so hopefully they'll be calling me soon to let me know what's up with it.

Re: i cant believe people get away with the crappy work that they do!!!!

Never go to those crappy discount glass shops. I deliver glass from a major distributor to a lot of these guys and they have absolutely no training before they start tooling around with your car. The bigger companies that may charge a little more send their guys in for mandatory 120 hour training classes and require on the job training with a supervisor before they can work by themselves. Not worth the few dollars off.

Want to see what they're worth? Ask to use the restroom and see if they have a fridge full of beer back there haha you'd be suprised..

Re: i cant believe people get away with the crappy work that they do!!!!

haha. thanks for the tip, cl0ak i asked the glass shop if what happened to me (having to bring my car back to them 5+ times) has happened before with the same installer. they said, "well, he's not as knowledgable as he could be..." well, if he's "not as knowledgable as he could be" then i dont want him working on my car!!! i know for damn sure that i wont be going back to ANY shop with the words "discount" in the name unless the business has been referred to me.

and at the dealership.... they had my car ALL DAY friday (as in, i dropped it off at 7am before i went to work and picked it up at 430 when i got off) when they didnt even have the part i needed in stock!! cant they check on things like this before i give them my car for an entire day? anyway, i took it back to them this morning so hopefully they will actually be able to install the part today. god, all of this has been such an ordeal just trying to get one litlte leak fixed.

i've found myself longing for the car i had when i was a kid. you know, the kind with a plastic body and pedals to operate the wheels. there's surely a lot less that can go wrong with those things.

edit: just found out from the dealership that they installed the new heater core but "the tech" left early for the day so my dash isnt put back together! they told me i could use a loaner car til i get my car back tomorrow after "the tech" puts my dash back together. i think moving to alabama was a bad choice for my car.... nothing good has happened to it since i've been here!!
