2000 Astro Running Poorly - MAP Sensor
I have a 2000 Astro and it sometimes runs very sluggish with delayed acceleration. However, if I unplug the MAP sensor, the thing runs great. What are the chances that simply replacing the MAP sensor will fix the problem?

Re: 2000 Astro Running Poorly - MAP Sensor
I think I meant to say the MAF (Mass Air Flow). It is one of two sensors (the front one) that plug into the air intake tube. It just unclips and pops out.

Re: 2000 Astro Running Poorly - MAP Sensor
The MAF is about 4: in diameter and is clamped into the intake ductwerk. The small (about 5/8" diameter) sensor plugged into the top of that duct is the intake air temperature sensor.
Unplugging either should turn on the MIL. Unplugging the MAF should force the PCM into a Backup Fuel Mode. If the system has been a bit lean, that can make the engine seem to run better due to it's extra rich defaults.

Re: 2000 Astro Running Poorly - MAP Sensor
I looked again. The clip that I unplugged actually goes into a rectangular black box that comes off of the intake tube. Sounds like the MAF plug based on your description. I also so the 5/8" plug on top but that is not what I unplugged to see the better performance. Is there a way to see if the MAF itself or the wires/plug going to it are bad?

FYI for the benefit of the readers:
I replaced the MAF Sensor and the van works great now. That's what the problem was. |

Can you get this MAF sensor at autozone? I searched for it, and I didnt find a MAF sensor.
