Insurance

I am thinking of buying a 2002 Eclipse GT but I checked out insurance and it's outrageous. This is for on my own though. I'm 18 and have a spotless driving record (never been pulled over) and have good student and on my own it's like $1500 every 6 months which is completely nuts. I'm going to see if I can get it under my parents for cheaper but I am wondering what is typical insurance on an Eclipse considering it's a sports car?

Re: Insurance

I'm moving this thread over to the 2000+ Eclipse section so they can help ya out better with your question... That does seem a bit high, but like you said your 18 and on your own with it... It'll be that way until you hit like 24 I think it is... Kinda sucks for those of us who pay out the nose for insurance...

Re: Insurance

Not necessarily... I'm 19 with a clean record and insurance for the Talon ('90 ADW turbo) is only $70 per month liability through Esurance. I would check them out home boy, they are the cheapest I have found. Also, no matter what going under your parents policy is going to be cheaper for ya.

Re: Insurance

State Farm, 21 year old male, no tickets or anything...998 every 6 months for a 2000 Eclipse GT...kinda lame in my opinion (still under my parents policy)

Re: Insurance

Yeah I checked them out. I guess my mom is checking what it'll be under their insurance because the quote was on my own. I'm going to get a loan to build my credit so it'll have to have full coverage. Plus $12,000 is a lot of money not to have full coverage on.

Re: Insurance

since i have two cars, (best way imo) the galant runs me 90$ month and the eclispe anotehr 90 month since it is a weekend car... and that's under my parents. AWD really doesn't help on insurance, not sure why.

Insurance is actually cheaper on my Talon than it is my Firebird and the Firebird is only a v6... Imagine that crap... lol

Re: Insurance

Ok my mom called the insurance company and the lady said that if it's listed under my dad for driving and I'm listed under his 95 f150 it'll only be another $190 every 6 months more.

The thing I don't get is how this can be even legal. The lady at the insurance company said it would be fine because I'm under my parent's insurance.

My dad is wondering also about liability. Like say the car will be titled under my name and if I were driving and crashed who is liable since it's their insruance. I think it would be me since it's my car and I'm driving it.

Re: Insurance

the insurance company only needs a person listed under who is driving what. theoretically people are honest and don't abuse the system, but everyone does. If you get in an accident in the car during a time when your parents should be driving it, your insurance may drop you because you weren't supposed to be driving it, but tehy will still cover the mess you got it. And then again they may not drop you, you may be good to go, but i doubt they'd take it past twice happening and especially if it is your fault.

like if the insurance company found out i was driving the weekend fun car to work every day, my insurance would go up, not that i am, but that's naturally what they would do. and if i got in more htan one accident driving the weekend car on any day but a weekend, they may drop me for being dishonest.

it's all just a system that people have found ways to abuse.
