What do you think? This isn't a performance only thread, this is what you would buy, assuming you had money. The GTO has less power, and isn't as fast or quick...but I still think I'd take it. Tough call though.

Question

I like both. You would look very conspicuous in both, but much less in the 288GTO. The 288GTO looks a lot like a 308, so people may underestimate you, but you could just blow them away.

That was kind of why I posted this. I would assume that the F40 would be the winner because it has a sizable performance edge, and it seems like people are always talking about it...but for some reason I just had to take the 288GTO.

What was the production number on the GTO? Anyone know?

Man, imagine walking to your car in a parking lot and seeing an F40 parked next to it! Crazy.

The 288GTO has always been my favorite Ferrari, even though is lacks the top performance title....just a gorgeous car.

My super cool ferrari book says that there were 272 288 gtos made in from 84-86. not very many compared to the f40.

on the f40 side there were 1311 built over five years. but i dont know how many of those were gt's. they did make a upgraded version of the f40 right. bc i have seen pics with a f40 with a red green and white pin stripes and it has gold exhaust. were these really made or did just some rich man "spunk" his up? - beez

Well, that sounds like really poor taste so I very much doubt that Ferrari would ever build that on purpose...

The striping makes sense because those are the colors of the Italian flag. Gold exhaust seems fishy.

I'd take a 288 GTo because it's my favourite Ferrari. They did make a few models of the F40 the base modle, the Gt and the LM, there's one usually at the back of Dupont Registry Magazine for 800k.

I love them both. Tough choice, but I think I would have to go with the F40.
