97 blazer - no start confused
Ok i'm not the brightest on this but here it is. 1997 blazer w/ 4.3 vortex. Bought it for $500 not running. Was running 1 month ago.(reason i bought it) Now it turns over but doesn't start. Has 64lbs of pressure(fuel), New battery, New crank sensor, New ignition module(under rotor), New cap. rotor. plugs. wires, Used coil, Sparks looks good on all plugs. Timing was set by hand but unsure if correct. Turns over normal but doesn't start. I thought it might be 180 degrees off so i set it and fired my starter. Ooops. took out #1 plug set rotor to top dead center. Still nothing. Am I missing something?
Any help would be great.

Re: 97 blazer - no start confused
pull the filler cap off and have someone crank the engine... the rocker arms should move.. if not the timing chain broke.... assuming like u said that the engine was running before i didnt see the reason to remove the distributor.. other items too look for is the coil.... i hope this helps

Re: 97 blazer - no start confused
Rocker arms are moving. Phew... Reason i moved the distributor was to put in the ignition module. I didn't know i was supose to mark it, So i put it in worng before. But it's tdc now(i think).

You have to time it at TDC compression stroke. The flat top dist cap can be confusing on no one plug wire . Look at the bottom of the cap. After you find TDC compression by pulling plug and felling foe compression stroke . Set you dist as show in this picture. http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...hp?photo=51302 Good luck MT And let us know how it goes.

Well it's in running condition once again. I'd have to say i didn't listen to MT-2500's post. I thought it was like the old style engines. After Almost giving up and burning it to the ground, I went out and bought a repair manual. MT-2500 was right and knew what he was talking about. I set the timming to the marks on the rotor and BAM!! it started.
Thanks to all that posted and Special thanks to MT-2500 for the correct answer. Sorry i didn't listen to ya the first time. |

You are welcome. And thanks for posting back how it went. Yes the flat top dist cap will throw you for a loop just looking at the top of them. Flip them over and you can see where the wires cross over ever which way. No problem just. Glad you got it going MT
