putt,putt,plop...help

I changed the fuel filter and my 2001 voyager still will not stay running. It spits and sputters as if it is not getting fuel. Dealership said that usually if fuel pump is bad it won't start at all and to try filter. Put new filter in and no change at all. Any ideas? Thank you!! (By the way the filter is on the top of the gas tank and a real son of a gun to get to )

Check this site: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm
autozone does not have a manual for 2001. this is for 84 to 95. It will give you a idea how to check your fuel pressure. I replaced a fuel pump in a 94 and the new pump was faulty, engine ran but like it was on 3cly with no accl.
What engine and mileage on vehicle? It sounds like fuel pump to me. Hope this helps

it is a 3.3 with about 130,000 miles. before changing the filter it would idle but died when you touched the accelerator but after changing the filter it will not idle but as long as you keep your foot on the gas it will run and will rev up all the way but when you let off it immediately dies.

Also check your fuel pressure regulator, if I am correct the fuel pressure regulator should NOT have any gas in it, if there is replace regulator. I'm sure someone with more knowledge than I will chime in.

If the fuel pressure is good look towards the idle air control valve, EGR system or a vacuum leak. I'll take it you're not seeing a service engine light.

Re: putt,putt,plop...help

First of all, I am very grateful to all of you who are so kind to respond......as for the check engine light, it has been on and off for the past year....also, where will I find the fuel pressure regulator? I also want to add that the van was running absolutely fine prior to this occurence. I was driving on the highway and everything shut down, no warning, then the rest is as posted. (I had filled up with gas the day before but the gas station said they havent had any complaints of bad gas) Thank you again for taking the time to help.

You may wanna try the map sensor. Autozone has it for $18-$20. I had the same problems and it turned out to be the sensor mixing the gas too rich.

Re: putt,putt,plop...help

First off, clean out your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. These are notorious for getting gummed up and causing the symptoms you're describing (poor idle, but runs if you hold the accelerator). Then report back.
