Re: 1993 lincoln towncar
Check that air line on the air bag that won't inflate. Could be pinched broken or loose. The compressor is located in the left front corner (drivers side) under the air box.

For example, if the rear springs were leaking for awhile and you allowed the compressor to work overtime trying to keep up with the leaks, then Yes.. there's a good chance the compressor fried. The compressor's are not built to run continuously, which is why we need to be aware of leaks and compressor run times. Check that fuse again, if it keeps blowing that motor is most likely shorted. Bench testing will reveal more. Since your system is now leak-proof, you can install a manual fill valve to get you through the time it takes to correct the compressor issue. Here's a quick process for an Emergency Fill Valve.

I've never had one apart, and honestly <knocking on simulated wood> I've not had to replace one yet either. I'm told the new design ones from Arnott Industries.com are said to be of superior quality than those from Ford. AmericanAirSuspension.com also has parts. As for the DIY, you never know... For myself, I'd have it apart in minutes looking for a way to get it working.. If it's a piston / sleeve design ( Sorry, I don't know ) you might be able to fix something.. reed design can't be too hard to fix either. I just don't know. Maybe some WWW searches will turn up some rebuild information.

Re: 1993 lincoln towncar
The piston will get corroded and seize. I've taken a few apart, cleaned it up in side and got them to work. I have also taken some apart and they are so bad inside that there is nothing you can do. A lot of places that you buy these from they want a core, so some one is rebuilding them. It's woth a shot to see if you can get yours working again. Let me know if you need a pump I've got one good used one. E mail me if interested [email protected]

Re: 1993 lincoln towncar
The timing is off. Did you set it with a timing light? Set it at 10 degrees and see if it still pops. Not a Lincoln, but the small block Chevy is one of my favorites. I did a similar project about 15 years ago. Put a 305 form a trashed 79 Firebird into a 83 Cutlass Supreme. The V6 in the Olds was worn out, the V8 made quite an improvement.

Re: 1993 lincoln towncar
As far as the chain and sprocket goes, depends on the mileage. High mileage = worn chain and sprocket. Got an S10 with 250 k that has slipped a tooth on the sprocket. It's siting here waiting on the gear set. one of thousands of other personal projects.
When your setting your timing plug off the vac. advance if the distributer has one. Since the motor is running I think it's safe to say that you are not 180 degrees out. I don't usually use my timing light, just set it by ear. I rotate the distributor and lock it down where it sounds best.
