It's time to let you guys know what is going to be going on with my car now. I've been holding out long enough, and it's about time to fill everybody in. Everyone always asks about turbo, all motor N/A, spray... and so on. Well I know for sure what I'm going to do now, so I'm filling in the blanks for you guys.
As you know I just did a head swap and everything is perfect with that. I also just got a rebuilt tranny and new clutch. My plans now are to get a block, build it up strong, stroke it, and make it hold as much hp as possible. I'm looking for the bottom end to hold 400-500hp . I AM going to turbo it. I was thinking about just going all high comp., and run some 12.1 or 13.1 pistons, but realized I'm playing more with fire. N/A is a great way to be, but a turbo with low compression would be better in my book. So with that, I am turboing.I've got a T3 sitting in my closet (thanks to Brian), but I think it may not be big enough now for what I'm wanting to do. Thinking maybe a BE16G, but again, that may not be big enough. I will have all hard pipes, FMIC, 255FP, bigger injectors (thinking 650s or so), MS, SAFC, and everything needed to control it and handle everything, so I think I'll be able to get bigger than the 16G. Especially if the motor itself is going to be capable of handling the power. Any ideas or suggestions on that? Going to be externally WGing for sure. This is going to be a lot of work considering that I am piecing this turbo together (no kit). Plus it is going to take a long time also. I'm guessing this will take about a year to complete, because the Talon is also my DD and I can't have any down time with her. I have to have a spare everything basically. The head took over a year to fully build and install, but that also had to do with that fact that I didn't have that great of a job. Now I'm working at Budweiser as a graphics/web designer full time so I'm making a lot more now. With that said, I'm hoping it may go quicker than that. But when I do the swap (doing it myself of course), everything is going in all at once: block and turbo. All the upgrades, like the FP and such will of course be done before that, just so they're ready to go.So that's my plans for my ESi. Now Project ESi-T . So for those who can't read, cliffnotes: Building engine to hold 400-500hp and turboing. I want to hear any ideas, comments, anything. Good day.

What about....ET ...Xd
Sounds good for the project though , i'd like to know how it turns out in the end..i'm hoping to build my 420A to about 350 C-HP and produce about 280 - 290 WHP...I'm just worried how it will effect my MPG :S no longer a daily driver...RS-T is what I am building right now but if you go with 400 + hp , look at about 10 mpg lol..

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
Sounds good. I agree, go bigger then a 16g for sure. Maybe even take your car off the road for a year and buy a beater. This way you dont have to rush it after you gather all your parts. Its always good to have another form of transportation if you own a turbo'd car puttin out some numbers lol. Either way, your idea's seem good and keep us updated. Good luck! You got me thinking, maybe one day I'll make my TL a TL-T( or TL type T).

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
I've got a spare car. It's my Oldsmobile. Parents use it mostly now. But it's mine. I get away with not having to pay insurance on it as long as I keep it running. But I can't afford to keep the Talon off the streets for a year or so. And I'm going to have everything done before it's ready to go in.
No time for completion. It's going to take awhile to get all the parts and money. Money is a huge factor. Plus I have to make sure nothing else comes up also. I do want to move out, but I'm thinking I may just at chill at home for the time being. Did want to buy a bike too, but I think I'll hold off on that too. I'm going to say about a year to get all the parts and everything. Then I have to build it, then do the swap of course. What size turbo do you think will work good in my case? I thought the 16G would be too small. T3 definitely isn't going to hold up is it? What trim should I be looking for? I know... big. lol.

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
I love this. Yeah, the 16g will definately not be enough. If you are shooting for 500 hp, I would get one rated for like 550 or more just so that its realistic that you can get the 500 hp without tuning/boosting the ever lovin balls out of it. I do have a couple recommendations. First off, PTE makes good turbos and they are very cost effective. Sure a FP red would be nice, but I see no reason to drop $1400 on a turbo when a turbo $500-$600 cheaper will do the job just as well. Also, I would like to suggest a shop to get it from. Modern Automotive Performance is a great shop in the Minneapolis area with pretty good prices. Their PTE turbos are $70 cheaper than SBR's plus they are a great group of guys. Their site is www.maperformance.com.

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
Niiice man... I had already figured it would most likely end up turbo'd...
I'd have to say the T3's aren't gonna flow enough air. I had two T3's around here, but I measured them and compared them with some compressor maps, and they weren't flowing much more air than my 14b. I'd say go for a 57 or 60 trim. Go to Garrett's website, and read their turbo info (turbo 101, etc...). These little things have lots of information on how turbos work and the proper selection fir your application. Maybe in a few weeks, I'll reveal my plans... Let's just say the AWD will be lookin' a new turbo *cough*30R*cough*. Oh and a nice little Extreme Psi order should be arriving this evening.

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
Well I am back from the dead and this is the first post I saw. FINALLY u came to realize that turbo is the way to go
. Once you are a boostaholic there is no escape. I can see that you are serious and turboing the talon will not be hard at all, it will take time but it will be all worth it. There are rebuild kits for the 420a engine that will hold well over 500hp. You can take that little engine to make a lot of ponies but I wouldnt recommend, clutches, gas prices going up, 100 octane and more problems will come up. It will not be a reliable car. I think 500whp will be more then a fwd will need. I wish you luck and post as many pics as possible.

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
I know that there will be problems with a more higher HP car. The thing is, I won't be running it up there all the time. Sure I'll have the HP, but I'm not really a 'street racer' or anything. I'll have fun, but won't be pushing it every day, which does make a difference. And as long as it's built well, it should be good.
I know there are the downsides like gas, clutches, and so on. I'm aware of all of this and have checked it all out. The power does outweigh that though Again, this won't happen overnight. I've got other expenses to take care of and everything else. I would also like to get some rims and coilovers too first. Wanted those by fall but we'll see. I'll keep updates. I still need a block too people, comeon now.

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
Looks good David. About time we have another turbo 420a around here. Good luck trying to control 500hp with a fwd car.

Re: david-b's 420a Plans Finally Revealed
I want the motor itself to be able to hold 500hp. Actual hp will more than likely be less to start off with. But if I'm going all out, may as well get it done all out. I was thinking of just going with a smaller turbo to start off with, but then it's like, it's just a waste of money to do that. So whatever. Still got time tho, so don't worry.
