Add CD player 2003 Taurus

My 2003 Taurus has the factory AM/FM Cassette stereo installed with the CDDJ compatibilty. Has anyone added a CDDJ compatible cd player to the existing stereo? If so, give me some input, please. Reference page 18 of the owners manual. Thanks.

As I always search before posting, I found nothing relevant. Thanks anyway.

Re: Add CD player 2003 Taurus

A search for the keyword "changer" yielded 70 hits, some of which should be relevant if you are trying to add a stock 6-disc changer to your stock head unit which has the CDDJ controls. Is that what you are trying to do?

It appears there are also some cables available which may allow you to add an aftermarket changer to the stock head unit.

Re: Add CD player 2003 Taurus

Thanks, Rod. After reading all 70 previous threads, I decided to install either the USA SPEC DF-FORD10 adapter or the PIE FRDR-AUX adapter to enable me to choose between any cd changer or MP3 player. My son has a 2003 sedan and I have a 2003 wagon. On the sedan, it was easy to find the connector in the driver's side of the trunk. On the wagon, I looked in the spare tire area in the left rear but I cannot find the connector. Does anyone know where to plug in these adapters on the wagon? Crutchfield only gives directions for the sedan even if you select wagon. Thanks.

Re: Add CD player 2003 Taurus

Are you sure those part numbers are for cd changers??? I'm thinking from what I'm reading that those items are for installing portable music players, dvd, ipod etc... you can't use a cd changer with those part numbers,, this part:: pie Model FRDR/PC-KNN may be what you're looking for.. look at Crutchfield for definite explanation, maybe I'm reading it all wrong..

Re: Add CD player 2003 Taurus

Yes, Taurusking, either of the adapters that I mentioned will work for any device that has an audio output, including any brand of cd changer. The USA-SPEC model has two inputs for any two different devices, but I really can only foresee using one input. However, none of them will work if I can't find the darn connector! Thanks

Wink Re: Add CD player 2003 Taurus

You may be confusing the amp connector for the CD changer connector. The amp connector is in the rear of the car, but the CD CHANGER connector is usually located in the center console area, as that is where the changer is located. Also, are you trying to add an aftermarket changer, or the Ford (Clarion) changer? Which radio do you have, AM/FM cassette or AM/FM single CD? Which heater do you have, 3 round knobs, or digital electronic?
