I am getting ready to put an engine in my 91' C2500. I found a 5.7 roller cam motor out of a 91' Firebird with only 68,000 miles very cheap. Will the truck tbi system work ok on this motor? Are there any modifications I will have to make? I will be putting this motor in no matter what. I will only be getting the long long block, I have everything else from my old motor. Any suggestions, tips or tricks for this installation?

Re: What should I expect?
bolt the intake a tbi on it and throw it in there, you shouldn't have any problems. That is unless you have a problem with more power

Re: What should I expect?
I thought that would probably be the case, just making sure there was nothing that would sneak up on me during the install.

Re: What should I expect?
shouldn't be. Just for extra reasurance I would change the front seal and the rear main while the engine is out, and of course the pan gasket too. Everything should be plug and play.

Re: What should I expect?
I had planned on changing the gaskets and seals(except head gaskets) and replacing the timing chain. Before I put the motor in I will repaint it too, and clean up the engine compartment. I am also going to replace the front seal in the trans before the motor goes in. I'm gonna go over it all with a fine tooth comb, I'm in no hurry I just want it to be right and the way I want it the first time around.

Re: What should I expect?
Maybe it's just me being over thorough, but if I had a "USED" engine sitting on an engine stand and I was putting it into a vehicle that I didn't want to have any problems with, and I wasn't in a hurry, I would yard the heads off. Send them down to a machine shop to get them checked for flatness, and have a pressure check done. Maybe it's unnecessary with 55k on it, but for me it's worth it to have the piece of mind......just my 2 cents.

Re: What should I expect?
I will be able to hear the engine run, so if its ok I'll go ahead and stab it. I'm trying to keep from having too much money in the truck right now, I only have $500 in it. Where I am really going to take my time is rebuilding the engine that came with the truck. I am planning on a stroker build. Eventually everything on the truck will be right, but it needs to move right now. I know that sounds funny but I want to be able to use it a little if I want too, going to the dump, moving it around to do the body work etc. I just didn't know if thier would be any discrepancies with the Firebird engine as far as just bolting it in goes.
