Help with code 265 - ABS?
Hello everyone,
I have a 2001 Tahoe, 5.3L motor - it has 85,000 miles on it. The brake light and abs light have been coming on more & more often and staying on even when the vehicle has been restarted. Yesterday I took it to Brakemasters just for a diagnostic reading to see what code was coming up. I was not there to pick the vehicle up, so I could not talk to anyone. My son brought it home. They noted code 265 - no p or 0 in front of it. They also wrote "Electonic Body Control Module Relay Circuit" on the same piece of paper. I have been doing research online and have not found anything about this code. So - do any of you Tahoe gurus have any insight? All is appreciated. Happy 4th! 231 years and going strong - God Bless America! Chris |

Needs more testing to get to the problem. Could just be wiring or plug in. You will need to get a repair flow chart for that code and go threw it.

Re: Help with code 265 - ABS?
Thanks MT,
I spent 20 min. this morning on the phone with the GM dealership that I bought it from. Monday morning they are going to track down the issue. They were already preparing me for a $1200 hit if it is the EBCM - I told him that I read online about a company that rebuilds them for $125 or so - he said that even if they did, the unit would need to be reprogramed and that they would not do it on a rebuild for liability reasons. So my question for all that have taken this part out and had it rebuilt, how did you reprogram it? And what does that entail? Looks like GM will be deep in my pocket before all is said and done. Re: Help with code 265 - ABS?
As the code said it is a circuit or wiring problem.
Needs more testing to get to the problem. Could just be wiring or plug in. Has the fuse and power and ground circuits and plug in wiring been checked? You will need to get a repair flow chart for that code and go threw it. Rebuilt ABS stuff is a no no on liability reasons and issues. Tip on going to the dealer Ask that only a factory certified ABS brake performance specialist work on your car. Not all dealerships are concerned with how repairs are dispatched, and not all dealership techs bother to take advantage of the training offered by factory (the vast majority of which is paid training). If the dealer is uncooperative, ask for your money back and call around for a dealer that will accommodate you.

Re: Help with code 265 - ABS?
Just a note to let you know I'm looking at a '98 C/K service manual. Code C0265 refers to the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module).
Keep in mind your '01 may be different than my '98 manual. In my '98 Sub there are 2 fuses to look for and replace before you start spending a bunch of $$. In the Underhood fuse/relay center there is a 60amp ABS MaxiFuse. In the I/P fuse block there is a 10 amp Brake fuse. Both of these send power to the EBCM. If you can find these fuses just replace them and see what happens. This code is usually set by a relay problem wthin the EBCM. The relay is not servicable which means you have to replace the EBCM. But as MT said there are many wiring problems that can be related. So, replace the fuses and let us know. Once again this is out of a '98 service manual and your '01 may be different. By the way the Body Control Module is a BCM on your '01. My '98 doesn't have one.
