Unhappy Cant get started.

I replaced the gaskets on my 96 chevy pickup w/ a 350. I used a Chiltons repair manual to reasseble it But I can't get it to run. I think my problem is the timing. Ihave adjusted it several times to correct the problem with no success.Does anyone have any advice for me?

Run

Put #1 on TDC make sure it's on the power stroke! Then look at harmonic balancer to see if the timing mark's line up. Then pull dist cap see if the rotor lines up w/#1 plug wire You may have to twist dist cap to get it to fire.Make sure you have spark & fuel presure good luck!

timing

its deffinatly your timing. i just did the same thing yesterday. all you have to do is pull the #1 plug and have somebody turn over the engine until it is on tdc (top dead center) at the end of your compression stroke. then check to see if your mark lines up on your harmonic. If so direct the rotor to the #1 wire on the dist. then using a long flat head screw driver adjust the oil pump notch to the right angle so the dist shaft drops in. Then run it and time it accordingly.
